Jenny Scheinman is a violinist, singer, and songwriter who interprets folk traditions in a deeply emotional context grounded in jazz. She has worked extensively with some of the most innovative jazz artists in the world such as Bill Frisell, Nels Cline, and Marc Ribot and has also toured and recorded with Lucinda Williams, Rodney Crowell, Lou Reed, and Ani Difranco. For this performance, Scheinman is joined by pianist and composer Myra Melford, who over the course of more than two decades has crafted a singular sound that harmonizes the intricate and the expressive, the meditative and the assertive, the cerebral and the playful. While Melford’s music continually reaches toward a state of transcendence, it still remains deeply rooted in the blues traditions she heard growing up outside Chicago.
