Anna (Acevedo) Lyman (Jazz and World Music) is a Mexican-American, Latin-Jazz artist and songwriter, originally from Detroit, who combines Latin rhythms with Bluenotes for a unique sound. Monik Nordine, appears with her seductive sax., and Steve Sutton on Bass, with Pablo Cardenas (Cuba) on keys. Stephen Wortman from the Rutgers-Newark Observer in New Jersey, called Anna “the Motown Soul Senorita”.( “A Voice Like Honey, Songs Like Wine”.)
Anna has family ties to Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Brazil. Her original music combines her Latin heritage, with the Motown music she loved growing up, and is harmonically Jazz based. Anna describes this sound as "Bluenote Latin Jazz". She writes her lyrics in both Spanish and English in the same song, and scats to Latin music, which are both uncommon. She also does a lot of singing in Brazilian Portuguese, and recently sang Bossa Nova songs in Portuguese, with Brazilian family members, beside the Amazon river. Anna’s vocal range is fully Tenor, Alto, and Soprano. In her childhood, she was exposed to the music of such legends as Ray Charles, Sergio Mendes, Ramsey Lewis, and Stevie Wonder. Anna was listening. Some current influences include Rita Ribeiro, Dinah Washington and many more wonderful, Jazz, Latin and Soul musicians, and Hawaiian Jazz.
In summer of 2008, a Taiwanese record label, Hinote Records, approached Anna about adding two Bossa Novas from her Latin CD, “Sway-Quien Sera”, to one of their projects, “Café Bossa2, which is receiving worldwide distribution.
