DREAM BIG FISH is an international trio based in Berlin. The band consists of three young musicians who found each other through a shared love for improvisation and joy of finding something unique together in the unknown. The music is embracing the individual expression of the three members whilst still showcasing the unity of the trio, and you can hear how the musicians trust, encourage and challenge one another. Thorbjørn Stefansson (1997)
Thorbjørn Stefansson, born and raised in Denmark, is a doublebassplayer that since 2019 have lived in Berlin. After finishing Highschool and his Musical Training in Aarhus, Thorbjørn got accepted in the Jazz- program at Skurups Folkhögskola in Sweden, where he studied and lived for two years. After Sweden he moved to Germany to study at the Jazz-institut Berlin and quickly became an integrated part of the Berlin Jazz-scene. Since then Thorbjørn has played with lots of national and international names (Loren Stillman, George Garzone, Jim Black, Jacky Terrasson, Jonas Burgwinkel,) and in 2021 he received the JIB-Jazzprize for “outstanding soloist”.
Julius Gawlik (1997)
Julius Gawlik is a saxophonist and clarinetist living in Berlin. After his studies at the Jazz Institut Berlin he quickly became a part of the cities vibrant scene. In 2014, he has been awarded an outstanding soloist scholarship by the Temple University Philadelphia and he won the Karl Hofer Jazzprize 2019. He continues playing nationally and internationally with musicians such as Jim Black, Jeff Ballard, Tim Hagans, Niels Klein, Johannes Lauer and Rainer Böhm. In 2021 he became a permanent member of the prestigious NDR Bigband.
Marius Wankel (1996)
Marius Wankel is a Berlin-based drummer. He grew up in a family of musicians and early on started playing piano and drums. After studying two years at the conservatory in Würzburg, Marius moved to Berlin to continue his studies at the Jazz Institut of UdK. Besides being an active part of the jazz and improviser scene he is playing in punk bands and also producing music. He has worked with forward thinking artist such as Myka9, Roy Nathanson, Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, Wanja Slavin, Luki von der Gracht, Tim Novikov, Martha Elisabeth and many more.
NOTE: In 2024, the concerts at the LOFT will start round 8pm - the LOFT opens approx. 30min before the concerts begin.
