Following the success of her first album, Chansons de Cologne, bandleader Christine Corvisier couldn’t let go of the repertoire that had shaped her childhood. Following the success of her first album, Chansons de Cologne, bandleader Christine Corvisier couldn’t let go of the repertoire that had shaped her childhood. She has now enriched these melodies, which feel like home, with influences from her musical career in France, Germany, and America, and recorded them in March 2025—with the addition of a guest star: the famous trombonist Marshall Gilkes complements the band’s sound on several tracks.
The band’s second album is being released by the renowned label Neuklang, which heard Christine Corvisier live at concerts in Bauer Studios and decided to work with her.
The saxophonist didn’t stop there and decided to record additional arranged orchestral parts for some pieces, as she also plays the clarinet, flute, bass clarinet, baritone, alto, and soprano saxophone, and sings. In this second album, she does not limit herself to Charles Aznavour and Edith Piaf, who have already become her specialty, but also tackles the repertoire of Gilbert Becaud and Charles Trenet, which she takes in surprising and refreshing musical directions.
Rounded off by new, captivating compositions of her own, Christine Corvisier creates a well-rounded whole with an unmistakable personal touch.

What exactly is the concept behind “Chansons de Cologne”?
Christine Corvisier decided to reinvent the French songs of her childhood in a jazz register, using a modern aesthetic representative of the jazz city of Cologne: modern mainstream jazz.
„This repertoire of French chansons lay dormant within me and was connected to many beautiful memories of my childhood. I simply wanted to bring them out, revive them, and blend them with my adult life as a jazz musician and expatriate in Cologne. It was an intense and emotional experience for me, which I was happy to share with the wonderful musicians in this band who made it possible,“ explains Christine Corvisier.
The aesthetic and concept of the Christine Corvisier Quintet are based on a natural acoustic sound with plenty of room for improvisation and an emphasis on the soloistic qualities of all band members. In each solo, creativity is maintained through interaction between the musicians, which often leads them in unexpected directions or atmospheres during concerts and always meets with a very positive response from the audience.
“Christine Corvisier (…) shines on the tenor saxophone with a rich sound and also impresses with intelligent compositions.”
Westdeutsche Zeitung , Klaus M. Schmidt
“It’s amazing how artfully Christine Corvisier has translated the well-known chansons into the language of modern jazz.”
Jazzpodium 2022
“From the very first few minutes of listening, there is no doubt that this is music of the highest caliber. This is genuine, pure, magnificent jazz. The warm, velvety tone of the bandleader’s saxophone and the soulful phrases can warm even the coldest autumn day. We are thrilled!”
Jazz fun 2022
“…between Aznavour, clever improvisations, and refined arrangements with a penchant for a certain hymnal quality. The high point and finale is Corvisier’s truly breathtaking ”Les Feuilles Mortes“ solo saxophone performance.”
