The music that the three Cologne musicians around pianist Luca Hohmann recorded and released together last year has something almost magical about it. Time is taken, the music is allowed to develop and takes the listener on a journey through imaginary landscapes. The Esla Trio’s latest release will celebrate its premiere on several stages in Germany in May 2024.
The music that the three Cologne musicians around pianist Luca Hohmann recorded and released together last year has something almost magical about it. Time is taken, the music is allowed to develop and takes the listener on a journey through imaginary landscapes. There is something in it that wants to set a conscious counterpoint to our increasingly fast-moving times.

Luca Hohmann writes:
„Only then, when pure presence is allowed to express itself, do I feel how an experience of the real and personal can come to light. In this respect, I am particularly interested in the perception of time in music. I always find it fascinating what a strong influence music can exert and in this sense I have the feeling that my music could „positively manipulate“ the perception of time.“

The album is entitled Landscapes, but the idea of setting landscapes to music was not a foregone conclusion, but a result of the creative process of the three musicians. The music was developed in a rural setting near Cologne, and so various influences from natural and urban landscapes were integrated into the music.

Xander Zimmermann from the Incipit Novum label, on which the album was released, writes about it:
„This is fulfilling, empathic, humane, wonderfully breathing, close to nature in a subtle way. I feel respect for creation in music like this.“
The band, consisting of Jonas Kaltenbach on drums, Jonas Gerigk on bass and Luca Hohmann on various keyboard instruments, will also be inviting saxophonist Javier Vasquez to play a few tracks on their release tour.
