The biennial rhythm remains intact, also with the fourth album of the Eva Klesse Quartet. Miniatures – Ten Songs For Chamber Jazz Quartet was released at the end of October 2018, accompanied by enthusiastic media reactions. Many especially praised the band’s somnambulistically confident interactions and their characteristic, variable sound language. „In the pieces on this album, hardly a beat is what you would expect. No cliché. No celebration of effects. But rather the desire for instrumental conversation,“ stated BR-Klassik and Matthias Wegner attested in Deutschlandfunk Kultur: „…a wonderful overall sound: unexcited, yet full of depth.“ Ulrich Steinmetzger noted in the Leipziger Volkszeitung: „The continuous development of the band, which focuses on fine details and mild moods rather than on superficial overwhelmingness, is most fascinating.„...

So now the next chapter in this artistic success story: creatures & states. Once again, the reflective band, which won a Jazz Echo in 2015, makes its focus clear: the musical telling of imaginary stories that abstract their own experiences and feed on emotions. Strategic considerations decidedly play no role in this. What is central, however, is the jointly developed sound, which deliberately keeps away from short-lived trends.

Because what is hip today may already be outdated by the next fashion tomorrow. creatures and states tells about living beings and the states they can get into. Intentionally, the band blurs reality, dream and fiction in their colorful pieces, taking their listeners on journeys into different moods. „Our music is becoming more and more precise and profound,“ Evgeny Ring explains the development from his point of view, „the compositions are gaining even more importance. It’s an ensemble record through and through, which doesn’t emphasize sprawling solos. And for each piece we have a clear visual idea, common images in our heads.“ In short paragraphs in the booklet, the quartet describes ideas or backgrounds of each track.
