Getting caught up in the maelstrom of subtle and subtle music-making in every nuance – you can have this thoroughly exhilarating experience at concerts by tenor saxophonist Jason Seizer.
Born in Stuttgart, he has lived in Munich since the late 1980s and has since developed, cultivated and deepened his sound and compositional language with great continuity, including in very fine recordings with pianist Marc Copland and guitarist Peter Bernstein, among others.
From 2003, Jason Seizer also released 140 albums for the Munich label Pirouet as a sound engineer and musical producer. These included the CD debut of the then 21-year-old Cologne pianist Pablo Held 15 years ago and eight more by this exceptional young musician. The saxophonist has now been working with him in a quartet for seven years, along with Danish bassist Jonas Westergaard and drummer Fabian Arends.
When the musicians use their wealth of experience and their playing skills to interpret Jason Seizer’s compositions with a high degree of intuition in a lyrical, floating and at the same time grippingly swinging improvisational manner, they are also exploring deep emotional worlds. They follow the saxophonist’s inner connection to jazz and his very personal inclination to finely balanced sound explorations through melancholic terrain.
MUSIC OF HOPE is the name of Jason Seizer’s new program. In times of crisis, this title describes the feeling of returning to self-expression in music.
