COSMOS – the new album of the Johanna Klein Quartet was released a few days ago under the label Berthold Records. The first release concert will take place on July 8, 2021 at LOFT in front of an audience!

For her quartet, the bandleader has chosen three renowned musicians of the Cologne jazz scene. They play original compositions, which are constantly developed and transformed in the collective. The music moves in the area of tension between modern jazz and free improvisation, but influences from pop and rock are also recognizable. The sound of the band is distinguished by the improvisational handling of parameters such as sound density, dynamics, playful freedom and fixed schemes. Bass, saxophone and drums are operated acoustically and complemented by the electronically distorted sound of the electric guitar....

Early in 2019, the Johanna Klein Quartet won the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation jazz competition and the associated performance scholarship.
In the summer of 2020, the debut album COSMOS was recorded, and in fall of the same year, the Johanna Klein Quartet will play at the Avignon Jazz Festival.
