After his furious and critically acclaimed debut Elephants Marching On on the Swiss label Unit Records in September 2021, drummer and composer Jonas Sorgenfrei dedicated his second release 2022 to the transparent sound of a trio without a harmony instrument: the Saxophone Trio.
The compositions of the program Moods tell about moods in everyday life and beyond – influenced by their emotions and qualities. In doing so, the music reveals a clearly recognizable influence of American straight-ahead. The band sound is earthy, warm and the band swings sometimes briskly, sometimes finely through the mostly clear and formally clear compositions. In the quartet, the two programs Elephants Marching On and Moods are presented in a new guise. The band features the exceptional Rosenheim saxophonist Florian Trübsbach, the Cologne bassist Matthias Akeo Nowak. Also based in Cologne is guitarist Philipp Brämswig, who with his unique musical interpretation opens up further possibilities for the band’s rich tonal facets.
