The Corona crisis is not exactly taking good care of the culture at the moment. For the second time, a full stop, which makes not a few of those affected even doubt their raison d'être. The eternal discussion about relevance is particularly preoccupying for those who have pigeonholed themselves as "jazz". Phillip Dornbusch's recipe, on the other hand, is as simple as it is obvious: to simply make the world a little bit better. "I want to use my music to bring awareness to certain problems," says the 26-year-old tenor saxophonist, explaining his chosen path. "'Mouning`, for example, I wrote when the ship "Sea-Watch 3" was stuck in Italy with all the refugees in July 2019. That moved me a lot, and out of those feelings the piece was born. When we play it live, I imagine that the audience will engage with the story. And so I want to do my part to move things in a different direction."
