Berlin-based drummer and composer Lukas Akintaya reflects on his time in New York City with his project and eponymous debut album HUES (Skirl Records, 2021). He focuses on finding one’s bearings in a new environment, rethinking familiar and entrenched paradigms, and taking other perspectives into account. The album speaks its own language, which cannot be reduced to a genre term. A strong improvisational approach mixes with post and alternative rock, ambient and electronic.
