ASYMMETRIC FAIRYTALE – An urban story, perceived through the veil of shards – is the new program by saxophonist and composer Maximilian Shaikh-Yousef. It deals with socio-critical themes and is told musically in a futuristic, melancholic way. A mixture of musical textures and simple, broken melodies create a space for atmospheres and moods.
Shaikh-Yousef – winner of the 2018 Frankfurt Jazz Prize and winner of the Young Munich Jazz Prize – founded his quartet in the summer of 2015. At that time, his music was characterized by a song character in which different styles of jazz, Arabic sounds and classical literature could be heard. Stylistically, a certain similarity still resonates, although the new program is now a single journey that takes you into a dream world....
