Mastermind Oliver Steidle on drums and responsible for the compositions, presents his new band Killing Popes. The winner of the New German Jazz Prize in 2008 and 2010 is best known for his collaborations with Der Rote Bereich, Peter Brötzmann, Philm, SoKo Steidle and Klima Kalima. He has been touring internationally for years and, according to the press, is one of the leading lights of the constantly evolving young Berlin avant-garde. The list of musicians with whom he has worked could be continued endlessly: Louis Sclavis, Tomasz Stanko, Aki Takase, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Sean Bergin, Tristan Honsinger, Trevor Dunn, Andrea Parkins etc....

This band is his testing ground for the development of new rhythmic ideas and the possibility to weave together musical styles that influenced him in his youth: HipHop, Punk, Grindcore. Music styles that also have a strong socio-critical character, like jazz in its best years. This as a stylistic basis, the compositions offer everything that makes up jazz today: rhythmically complex, catchy melodies and room for improvisation.
