Jelena Kuljić has been playing with Frank Gratkowski for over 10 years, mostly on rock projects, and the collaboration between Achim Kaufmann and Frank Gratkowski goes back to the 1980s when they were both studying at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
They all share a great love for the music of Ellington and Strayhorn, which led them to create the project Something to Live For.

In the second part of the evening, improvisation, groove and sound research come together. The Resonators combine jazz, avant-garde and lyrical power to create an intense musical experience. Jelena Kuljić’s voice – powerful, nuanced, unmistakable – is at the center of this energetic collective.

Originally created as an experiment by bassist Reza Askari, The Resonators have developed their own new sound, whose amalgamation of free jazz and rock elements quickly became the band’s trademark. The influences of psychedelic rock from the late 60s and early 70s in particular are a unique selling point of the band, whose free group improvisations are of the highest standard. The first album Headlong was released in 2021, followed by its successor Dashin‘ Headless in March 2025, a live recording of a LOFT concert at the 10th PLUSHMUSIC Festival in September 2023.
