For years, Simon Nabatov has been particularly interested in inviting musicians from the younger generation for his bands and projects.
His Cologne trio with Stefan Schönegg and Dominik Mahnig, the quartet with Sebastian Gille, David Helm and Dominik Mahnig or his recent Bulgakov projects are just a few examples.

With the Fine Mesh Ensemble, however, the idea was to bring together musicians from two different generations.
Besides Nabatov himself, two internationally renowned representatives of the „60s Club“ are involved – the American drummer Gerry Hemingway and the German multi-reed player Frank Gratkowski. All three are connected by a long-standing musical collaboration, in the most diverse combinations and contexts.

The young Cologne scene is well represented by trumpet player and composer Pascal Klewer and bassist Roger Kintopf. The two belong to the brilliant generation of musicians who, not even 30 years old, confidently hold their own alongside the veterans and who inspire.

Simon Nabatov wrote a new program for the quintet, with the aim to create differentiated fine-meshed textures, and to combine the best of both – young and old.
