At first glance, one wishes this quintet as a working band, playing together for many years: Records, concerts, tours, worldwide, in the best clubs in the world - but then it goes "plop", and the beautiful dream bursts . But one thing remains: the anticipation of a very special, unique quintet performance.
Pablo Held has invited trumpeter and flugelhornist Heidi Bayer, whose warm, overtone-rich playing complements Matthew Halpin perfectly - although this time the saxophonist can be heard exclusively on the flute, which he has used on several occasions for beguiling, spherical atmospheric scenarios. In their excursions, the two can rely on the rhythm density of virtuoso drummer Leif Berger and bassist Doug Weiss - with Weiss, Pablo Held has lured one of the most exciting representatives of the New York jazz scene (via Berlin) to Cologne. In sum, a truly unique quintet presents itself, a handcrafted one-of-a-kind piece of jazz art.
