Kresten Osgood (*1976) is one of these people who at the same time defy and totally own categories. An extraordinary drummer and improviser who with the fullest respect to tradition, challenges it at any given moment of his creative endeavors. He has about a 100 albums to his credit, toured practically everywhere, has been performing and/or recording with legends like Roscoe Mitchell, Paul Bley, Lee Scratch Perry, William Parker, Masabumi Kikuchi, Derek Bailey, Wadada Leo Smith, Jason Moran, Michael Blake, Oliver Lake, Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Tchicai, Tim Berne, Justin Vernon, Peter Brötzman, Joshua Redman, Eugene Chadbourne, Billy Preston, Alan Silva, Brad Mehldau, Mats Gustafsson, Bennie Maupin, The National, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Sam Rivers, Henry Grimes, Dr. Yusef Lateef, Warren Smith, and many many others.
Wilbert de Joode (*1955) is a veritable research scientist of bass pizzicato and bowing techniques. A self-taught musician, he has been playing the double-bass since 1982. He began working in groups that improvised within a jazz framework. Other musicians were soon drawn to his idiosyncratic style, and in the mid 80s he played in groups led by Vera Vingerhoeds, Armando Cairo and Ig Henneman where he further developed his improvisation skills. He came into contact with such musicians as J.C.Tans, Rinus Groeneveld, Michiel Braam, Han Bennink, Han Buhrs (Schismatics) and Ab Baars. De Joode is currently one of the most active bass players on the European improvised music circuit. His individual style and musicality transforms the double bass into an equal partner in the most varied ensembles. A personal tone colour, exploration of the outer registers, quirky improvisations and the use of gut strings contribute to an instantly recognizable and intriguing sound.
Darius Heid (*1999) is a german pianist based in Cologne. He is a creative improvisor-composer who formulates his personal sound material and artistic expression through intensive research. His style has been described as “quiet, present, precise, quick-witted and energetic.“ Darius Heid works in numerous projects of his own in-between the fields of improvised music, new music, sound art, experimental club music, jazz and hiphop. Heid studied at the HfMT Cologne with Prof. Paulo Álvares, Jürgen Friedrich, Hubert Nuss and Frank Gratkowski as well as in Copenhagen with Jacques Demierre and Simon Toldam. Since 2019 (as of 2023) he has released nine albums as leader or co-leader. Of particular note is the self-produced album „Gratitude“ (2022), which features him solo as well as with improvisers from Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic and Latvia. Concert tours have taken him to Japan, South Africa, Canada, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Denmark.
