If Pablo Held’s invitation had been accepted by even one of his current guests, it would already have been an event. But now he presents four exceptional musicians in an English-Italian-German quintet that must be described in advance as simply sensational.

At just 20, Alexandra Ridout has made the British jazz scene sit up and take notice. While their new sound was celebrated for stylistic influences of grime, hip-hop and Afro-beat, Alexandra Ridout discovered her very own language. In Lockdown times she created compositions for her eloquent sound language, which proves its special character in balladic and forced modern jazz moments, whereby the self-confident, young trumpeter with her sometimes rough, sometimes beguilingly soft phrasing reminds at best from a distance of Mark Charig.

It is precisely this art of shaping between „supple“ and „bristly“ that makes Alexandra Ridout a congenial partner for Berlin’s Uli Kempendorff. The saxophonist is always exploring the interfaces of tradition and avant-garde in a sovereign manner. With his band FIELD (with Peter Bruun, Christopher Dell and Jonas Westergaard) he succeeded last year with the exceptional album „Someone Talked“. The Naples-born, New York-trained drummer Francesco Ciniglio can point to a similarly impressive reference work: On his self-composed concept album „The Locomotive Suite“ he drives his sextet rhythmically as filigree as urgently. Also sounding „very British“ is Birmingham-born Orlando le Fleming, who has attracted attention as a cricket player and respected session musician (with Guy Barker, Jeff „Tain“ Watts and Jane Monheit, among others, but also with Tobias Meinhart and Jochen Rückert).

So: Expectations are high – and should be easily fulfilled by this outstanding, international working band!
