Astraglossa is guitarists Raissa Mehner and Scott Fields. Each studied in the classical and jazz traditions and has extensive experience in other genres. Pop, noise, Neue Musik, free improvisation, and blues find their ways into the compositions that the duo performs. All blend composition and improvisation.

Mehner is German. She studied jazz guitar, classical guitar, and composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln and the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Fields is American. He was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, where he developed as part of the neighborhood’s free-jazz scene.

The musicians have appeared in venues and festivals throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan.
Astraglossa most often performs as an electric guitar duo. On occasions, however, the duo presents an all-acoustic program. The electric version of the duo will record its first CD in February 2024.
