About
April is a great month and we celebrate it by having one of the strongest voices in town as our artist in residence: pianist and composer Anders Filipsen.
for several years he has been releasing consistently great albums on the ILK label with such bands as The White Nothing, The Black Nothing and Traveling Tribes. He has combined a very personal style of writing with a completely free approach to improvising and is one of the most intuitive pianists in Denmark. This year he will be featured on an album as a member of the Kresten Osgood trio which also features saxophonist Ned Ferm and was part of the infamous Dybbøl Mølle Octet...

This year he will be featured on an album as a member of the Kresten Osgood trio which also features saxophonist Ned Ferm and was part of the infamous Dybbøl Mølle Octet
For his residency he has assembled 4 very special groups that you can only hear at mandagsklubben.
please note that from now on the artists in residence will only do one set from 9-10 pm. this is an attempt at trimming down the program a little so we can have more bands before it gets too late... there will still be at least 4 bands each night, sometimes 5 at you will be able to hear amazing music until way past midnight.
kl 20 Kuba Wiecek - Viktor Sandstrøm the duo!
Kuba Wiecek - Sax
Viktor Sandstrøm - Guitar
two strong players team up for a rare duo appearance. Wiecek has played many times at the club, but this is the first time we get to hear the great Viktor Sandstrøm. he has been playing everywhere else in northern europe with his trio and both he and Wiecek also play in Kathrine Windfeld big band. They are great improvisors and very melodic players
kl 21 Emil Jensen / Victor Dybbroe / Anders Filipsen
Emil Jensen - Trumpet
Victor Dybbroe - Perc
Anders Filipsen - Piano
all three members of this exiting trio are also members of the kultband Traveling Tribes. but here they will create significantly different music. Emil Jensen is a very gifted abstract improvisor on the trumpet who we dont get to hear often enough. Victor Dybbroe embodies the next generation of percussion. an expert of ancient rhythms and a great improvisor who also plays in Girls and Airports and has worked with many a pop band in the past few years. As mandagsklubben guests will know by now Anders Filipsen is something else!
kl 22 Andreas Frylands Kvæstet
Søren Gemmer - Piano
Kuba Wiecek - Sax
Andreas Fryland - Drums
For a long time Andreas Fryland has been a favorite drummer on the copenhagen scene. its not so often that he leads his own band. here he presents his "Kvæstet". A trio of great players. Gemmer has been at the club several times..both in a duo with Thomas Agergaard and also as a member of Reverse and Wiecek is a mandagsklubben favorite and one of the most prolific of the many polish artists residing in our town.
kl 23 the Asger Thomsen Quartet
Asger Thomsen - Bass
Henrik Melbye - Sax
Jonas Engel - Sax
Jeppe Justesen - Drums
one of the most interesting of the next generation of bassists is Asger Thomsen. He works with pretty much everybody of the younger artists in town and he is often associated with the great drummer Jeppe Justesen, who also plays in this band. the two of them were in the recently deceased Christian Kyhl´s last ensemble Kong Kyhlie. the twin saxophonists in this band are a real treat. Melbye has been at the club numerous times and is a wonderful player who can go anywhere. Engel has been taking copenhagen by storm since moving here from germany last year. come and see this great band from the leaders of the future.
