He performs regularly with his current jazz trio featuring his own original music around the front range and beyond.Dave WattsA graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in 1990, Dave Watts was one of the founding members of the pioneering jam-band, Shockra who toured nationally for 4 years and created a large grassroots following. He moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1994 and has since shared the stage or recorded with such names as George Porter, Stanley Jordan, Bill Evans, Charlie Hunter, Steve Kimock, Oteil Burbage, Jeff Coffin, Kyle Hollingsworth, Keller Williams, Jeff Pevar and Robert Walter. In 1998 Watts started The Motet, a progressive improv groove band with roots in funk, jazz, world, electronic music. Since that time, The Motet has toured coast to coast, building a national following from Alaska to Mexico to Boston. They have performed before a crowd of seven thousand to kick off the festivities at the Bonnarroo Music Festival. In addition, the band has played such venues as Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Fillmore West, The Fillmore in Denver, Freihoffer’s Jazz Festival in Saratoga Springs, and countless other prominent summer music festivals. As the creative force behind The Motet, Watts produced, engineered, mixed, recorded, as well as composed most of the material on the band’s albums, “Instrumental Dissent,” and “Dig Deep”. The albums are getting regular airplay on radio stations across the country as well as on Sirius Satellite Radio, and has received glowing critical reviews in such publications as The Denver Post and Glide Magazine.
