Jonathan Bäckström Quartet has become a mainstay in the free jazz community in Finland. The band has toured actively since it was formed in 2020 and has played several sold out concerts in clubs around Finland. 
The band’s repertoire primarily consists of original compositions by Bäckström. The music moves somewhere between free jazz and “creative music” with free improvisation as the common denominator. The band released their debut album “JBQ” in 2024.

In 2026, it will be 100 years since jazz symbolically arrived in Finland with the ship Andania. The year thus marks a historic centenary celebration for Finnish jazz: Jazz in Finland 100. The anniversary highlights Finnish jazz and its artists both in Finland and abroad, celebrating jazz as part of Finland’s cultural heritage. The Jazz in Finland 100 campaign is coordinated by the Finnish Jazz Federation.

Liput 20€/15€ Jonathan Bäckström Quartetista on tullut yksi Suomen free jazz -yhteisön vakiotoimijoista. Yhtye on kiertänyt aktiivisesti vuodesta 2020 lähtien ja esiintynyt useissa loppuunmyydyissä konserteissa klubeilla ympäri Suomea. Yhtyeen ohjelmisto koostuu pääasiassa Bäckströmin omista sävellyksistä. Musiikki liikkuu free jazzin ja niin sanotun ”creative musicin” rajamailla, vapaan improvisaation toimiessa yhteisenä nimittäjänä. Yhtye julkaisi debyyttialbuminsa JBQ vuonna 2024.

Vuonna 2026 tulee kuluneeksi 100 vuotta siitä, kun jazz symbolisesti rantautui Andania-laivan mukana Suomeen. Vuosi on siten historiallinen kotimaisen jazzin juhlavuosi: Jazz Suomi 100 -juhlavuosi. Juhlavuosi nostaa esiin kotimaista jazzia ja sen tekijöitä niin Suomessa kuin ulkomailla, ja juhlii jazzia osana suomalaista kulttuuriperintöä. Jazz Suomi 100 -kampanjaa koordinoi Suomen Jazzliitto.
