Montreux Jazz Festival is the king of all music festivals. Started in 1967 by Claude Nobs, Montreux has hosted the worlds top musicians from Miles Davis to Ray Charles to David Bowie. Although it still keeps the Jazz Festival name, visitors should be aware that it is no longer exclusively a Jazz Festival. Musicians of all types come annually to this king of Festivals.
Montreux has a long history with artists. Queen had a recording studio in Montreux and recorded most of their albums here. Freddy Mercury loved Montreux so much, he had an apartment here. There is a monument to Freddy Mercury on the Montreux promenade
Directions: The train is the best way to reach Montreux. You can fly to Geneva and it will take about 30 minutes by train. Or if flying to Zurich, it will take about 2.5 hours by train. Swiss trains are efficient, comfortable and very reliable.
