Jazz Night At Alois Featuring Kevin Valentine at Jazz Night At Alios

Alois at Bube's Brewery is proud to present Philadelphia jazz vocalist, Kevin Valentine for three sets of music on April 28th. Joining Kevin on the piano will be Andy Roberts, musical director for the American Music Theater. There is no cover charge and sets will run from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The performance will be held in the original Victorian Central Hotel at Bube’s Brewery.

Possessing an easy, effortless style that swings, Kevin Valentine’s treatment of standards conveys an understanding for the culmination of melody, rhythm and lyric. While Kevin loves standards, he does not think that they should be held in such esteem that they cannot grow and evolve. “Standards are not defined as being written between 1910 and 1950, they were just the pop songs of that day. Their pieces will be played 50 years from now and still sound fresh.” Kevin says that his job as an artist is to “find those tunes and be a part of the presentation that paints the picture with new colors”. Growing up in New York City presented Kevin with a wide array of musical opportunities and challenges. Kevin has performed at many clubs in New York City and Philadelphia. He has performed with his own trio, the Monday Blue Jazz Orchestra and is often a guest vocalist at the Four Season’s or Loew’s Solefood Restaurant. In 2013, Kevin was nominated for Best Male Jazz Vocalist of 2013 by the Clef Club of Philadelphia. “In a genre where male jazz vocalists of substance are rare, Kevin Valentine is the real thing. He is a performer who swings hard on a standard and yet has the sensitivity to nurture the ballad”, says jazz bassist and composer Mike Boone.

The Alois setting for Kevin’s performance provides an elegant and passionate club environment. Alois, named after the original owner, is located in the Victorian-style hotel that Alois Bube built for guests around 1880. It displays the original wood bar and hand-stenciled walls. Alois at Bube’s Brewery is located at 102 North Market Street, Mount Joy, PA 17552. Doors open at 7:00 PM and admission is free. Select whiskies, cocktails, martinis, Bube’s homemade artisan beer and soft drinks will be available as well as tapas style small plates.

Bube’s Brewery is an intact historic 19th century brewery and museum complex. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Fine dining is available in The Catacombs while casual dining is offered in The Bottling Works and The Biergarten, Bube’s outdoor garden restaurant.
