In 2015, the Central PA Friends of Jazz hosted a tribute to Ron Waters, one of the outstanding area musicians and longtime Director of our Central PA Youth Jazz Band. In his honor, CPFJ introduced a new educational grant - The Ron Waters Jazz Scholarship - that will be given annually to deserving area students. We highlighted Ron's dedication to the preservation of jazz through education of our young musicians. This scholarship fund not only donates to local students pursuing university degrees in music, but also helps financially challenged junior and high school students attending the Central PA Jazz Camp....

The Friends of Jazz now hold an annual event – The Ron Waters Scholarship Party - to help fund the scholarship program. All monies raised from ticket sales, raffles, and a silent auction go directly to the fund. The Central PA Youth Jazz Band is featured at the event along with a jam session by prominent Central PA musicians.
