The evocative sound as a whole is ensured by a seamless, intense interplay between the musicians.
Music has the power to enlighten us and make us see the riches of life surrounding us.
The evening’s programme is kicked off by Josefiina Vannesluoma & Mortal Lease, whose nuanced music produces an atmosphere that ranges from eruptions of ecstasy to understated elegance. In March 2025, Vannnesluoma struck a chord with her new compositions in Finnish at the Turku Jazz Festival, where she was voted Artist of the Year. Her compositions are based on the poetry of award-winning Finnish poet, Milka Luhtaniemi. Sello Hall will be filled with a captivating tapestry of vocals, harp and grand piano, whose tones and fabulous details inspire the listener to explore the deep meaning of life. 

In 2026, it will be 100 years since jazz symbolically arrived in Finland with the ship Andania. The year thus marks a historic centenary celebration for Finnish jazz: Jazz in Finland 100. The anniversary highlights Finnish jazz and its artists both in Finland and abroad, celebrating jazz as part of Finland’s cultural heritage. The Jazz in Finland 100 campaign is coordinated by the Finnish Jazz Federation.

Yhtenä modernin pohjoismaisen jazzin arvostetuimpana luovana voimana tunnettu pianisti, säveltäjä ja sovittaja Iro Haarla saapuu uuden kokoonpanonsa Ouranos Ensemblen kanssa Sellosaliin. Yhtye esittää konsertissa kappaleita albumilta Ouranos – Under the Firmament, jonka julkaisijana toimi Willa Silva Records marraskuussa 2024.
Sana ”ouranos” on kreikan kieltä ja tarkoittaa taivaankaarta. Yhtyeen esittämät kappaleet kuvaavat hienovaraisesti maan pinnan yläpuolella tapahtuvia ilmiöitä, joita emme ehkä näe, mutta aistimme ne kuitenkin elämäämme olennaisesti vaikuttavina elementteinä. Kokonaisuuden ja koskettavan soinnin takaa soittajien saumaton ja intensiivinen yhteistyö.

Illan aloittavan Josefiina Vannesluoma & Mortal Leasen nyanssirikkaassa musiikissa tunnelmat vaihtelevat hurmiollisista purkauksista hillittyyn eleganssiin. Vuoden artistina huomioitu Vannesluoma säväytti maaliskuussa 2025 Turku Jazz Festivalilla uusilla suomenkielisillä sävellyksillään, jotka hän sävelsi palkitun Milka Luhtaniemen runoihin. Sellosalissa kuullaan laulun, konserttiharpun ja flyygelin kiehtovia kudelmia, joiden soinnit ja fantastiset yksityiskohdat virittävät kuulijan tutkimaan elämän syvää merkityksellisyyttä.

Vuonna 2026 tulee kuluneeksi 100 vuotta siitä, kun jazz symbolisesti rantautui Andania-laivan mukana Suomeen. Vuosi on siten historiallinen kotimaisen jazzin juhlavuosi: Jazz Suomi 100 -juhlavuosi. Juhlavuosi nostaa esiin kotimaista jazzia ja sen tekijöitä niin Suomessa kuin ulkomailla, ja juhlii jazzia osana suomalaista kulttuuriperintöä. Jazz Suomi 100 -kampanjaa koordinoi Suomen Jazzliitto.
