There's a lot to be happy about new British jazz at the moment, but ask most people where to start and they will say Empirical - a four-piece band of young, like-minded musicians, each intent upon capturing the state of the world around them.
They have justifiably won many awards including the 2009 Parliamentary Jazz award and the 2010 MOBO for best Jazz group. They aim to expand on the traditions of Jazz performing using ideas from film and TV, from proverbs and sayings, even from sport. Their new album โElements of Truthโ has had rave reviews.
