Exciting tenor saxophonist Brandon Allen’s latest project celebrates one of his great influences, the late soulful, hard blowing American tenor player Stanley Turrentine. It’s a homage to Turrentine’s trademark sound which blended bop with rhythm and blues, capturing the spirit and exploring the stylistic changes that occurred throughout his career. This top-notch band, with the superb Will Barry on piano, will focus on Turrentine’s recordings on the Blue Note and CTI labels and some of his reimagined versions of rock/pop hits of the 60’s and 70’s. Expect soulful expressive saxophone playing accompanied by a hard swinging and funky rhythm section.
