Kim Macari Quintet "6for7" at Seven

ur fifth anniversary at Seven Jazz in Leeds - or at least part one of a two evening special event. How better to start to celebrate it than with some new music from Kim Macari, commissioned specially for the occasion by Seven Jazz. Kim Macari is the band's director and composer; she has a keen melodic sense, and a clever way of writing accessible jazz scores with a modern twist.
One of the sets will be some jazz compositions we have commissioned from Kim - there will also be music from jazz composers like Maria Schneider, Michael Brecker and Charles Mingus

Kim says "The band I formed, 6 for 7, represents the next step in my professional development in that it is the first project which will feature predominantly original material by myself and the other musicians. I guess that as we develop as musicians, we aim to shift the balance of material from arrangements and standards to originals. I made the decision to include a small number of arrangements of other peoples material simply because it is material that I love and that I think the group can still be creative within it"
