The “Yorkshire Jazz Suite”, commissioned by Jazz Yorkshire, is an hour long take on the Yorkshire landscape and people, with musical influences ranging from Duke Ellington to Kenny Wheeler.

Matthew Bourne (solo piano) The spirit of improvisation has been as central to Bourne’s career. A restless, endlessly exploratory musician, Bourne first came to prominence when he won the Perrier Jazz Award in 2001, following that with a BBC Jazz Award for Innovation the next year.

Kim Macari “Six for Seven” sextet. Kim Macari has a keen melodic sense, and a clever way of writing accessible jazz scores with a modern twist. Her band features some of the young musicians for which Leeds is now famous Riley Stone-Lonergan (tenor), Dave Drake (piano),Tom Riviere (bass),
Steve Hanley (drums) plus a special guest, Scottish/American alto saxwoman Leah Gough Cooper.

Al Wood is a multi-instrumentalist, at home on alto and baritone saxophones, trombone and trumpet. He was a member of the Maynard Ferguson Big Band and was deputy head of jazz performance at Leeds College of Music.
