Perhaps best known as a singer at the heart of the international club scene, Alison Limerick was also heavily involved in the early days of the burgeoning UK soul/jazz movement, including work with Courtney Pine, JTQ and Roger Beaujolais. She has an impressive list of credits, recording and performing live with numerous artists as well as scoring worldwide hits with “Where Love Lives”, “Make It On My Own” and “Love Come Down” and her own albums, ‘And Still I Rise’ and ‘With A Twist’ released on BMG and ‘Spirit Rising’ were received with considerable praise. Alison toured her live band around Europe and the Far East and was featured on the UK’s prime time Saturday Night Live. As a session singer she has worked with the likes of George Michael (appearing with him on The Parkinson Show), Tony Hadley, The Style Council and Pete Waterman.
The music of Algorisms is an eclectic mix of styles, brought together in a soulful jazz mélange. The Nu-Soul, Acid Jazz and Electronic Dance background of Alison mixes with the Funk, Gospel, Classic Soul, World, Prog Rock and Western Classical influences that represent Gordon’s musical journey. Picking from their own list of favourite Jazz, Pop and Film Soundtrack standards, Alison & Gordon treat each song in its own unique way, exploring time signatures, chord alterations, extensions and replacements, lyrical re-writes and more besides. Their arrangement of Paul McCartney’s ‘Blackbird’ is described as ‘excellent’ by London Jazz News and it is a joyful and energetic celebration of that song, juxtaposing breathy textures and cascading solos from the sax with vocals ranging from an intimate whisper to a triumphant roar, all underpinned by rich and rhythmic chordal work from the piano and solid grooving from the drums and bass.
