About

So, we thought what better way to mark American Independence Day than to ask one of the Club's oldest friends, Jeff Young who by chance happens to be back in the UK on tour at the moment, to set up a Special gig for us. And Special it certainly is. Jeff is a fantastic American singer/pianist who was a regular at the old Club when he was resident in London in the late 70’s. Since returning to the States he has established himself as a powerful performer, his soulful, lyrical, voice and fluent keyboards being an integral part of Jackson Browne’s band for many years. As a freelance musician of the highest calibre he also includes work with some of the very best performers in the world, including Bonnie Raitt, Donald Fagen, Bruce Springsteen, Al Green, Michael McDonald, Robert Palmer, Curtis Stigers, Randy Crawford, Bo Diddley, Sting and Steely Dan. The music is a soulful mix of R&B and Jazz is quite special. Whenever he's in the UK (not so often these days) we always try to find a space for him, so this is a rare chance to hear this great performer in the intimacy of one of his favourite Clubs. And just to add some musical spice and make this a real US/UK entente, Jeff has invited the brilliant guitarist Marcus Eaton, who is also on tour with Jeff at the moment, to join him for some seriously fun music making. Recently hailed by two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee David Crosby (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) as "one of the best young singer-songwriters in America" guitarist Marcus Eaton is receiving international acclaim. He started performing professionally in his teens and by the age of 21 had already recorded his first band album. By 2006 he had released his first critically acclaimed solo album “Story of Now” and in 2010 his second solo release, “As If You Had Wings”, was greeted with an equally impressive response, one critic stating that he had "'developed into a dazzling guitarist". In 2011 he was invited by David Crosby to work on David’s first solo album in over 20 years, which was eventually released in 2014. In that same year he joined Crosby's band on a sold out tour of the US where Crosby described Marcus as “...a really brilliant writer. Brilliant musically. Brilliant lyrically. And he just plays guitar like God on a good day". Pretty good from a man who knows a thing or two about music. Marcus's latest album “Versions of the Truth” was released in 2016 and has done much to cement his reputation as one of the finest singer/songwriters on the international music scene. The rest of the band, unsurprisingly, includes some of the UK’s finest musicians, including Paul Carmichael-bass, Frank Mead-sax and Martin Ditcham-drums. Booking advised!...
