Area and their 40th Anniversary Tour: the return of a legendary band in the music history!
How many Italian jazz rock band are famous everywhere? Very few. Among these, certainly AREA.
If they had to define their musical genre and their paths, they would call into question jazz, rock, progressive, world music (which did not exist even as a definition), the vanguard, the pure experimentation, the political song.
For Fariselli, Tofani and Tavolazzi this tour is not a "reunion" with a nostalgic flavor but a musical project far more wide-ranging: on the path of common past, our musicians particularly want to look at the future by offering not only AREA’s evergreens and classic tunes such as “Luglio, Agosto, Settembre (Nero)” or “La Mela di Odessa”. But also their individual musical paths undertaken after the end (or better say, interruption) of that incredible musical and social experience called AREA.
After 30 years of social, technological and music changes, Ares Tavolazzi (Bass), Paolo Tofani (guitar and synth) and Patrizio Fariselli (keyboards) are together again on stage. It will be a "strange" concert: the band is performing without both their symbolic element, the singer and vocalist Demetrio Stratos (died in 1979) and the unforgettable drummer Giulio Capiozzo. Yet, for all those who loved AREA, it will be an exciting event, a challenge to which Tavolazzi, Fariselli and Tofani will offer themselves with courage.
The venue hosting the show, The 100 Club, is a legendary concert hall. It has been home to many different bands of many different styles and its longevity and success over the last 60 years have been down to an open-minded music policy and the dedication of its many patrons over those years. Born in 1942 as a jazz club, it went through a war and through different music eras: blues, punk (hosting in 1976 the first punk festival ever), reggae, South African jazz and indie. The club has remained special to many people over the years and a lot of well known bands and musicians have come back long after they met with fame and fortune. Paul Weller, who played here with The Jam during the early Punk days and is a good friend of the club, has returned on numerous occasions to showcase new material. The Rolling Stones and Metallica have used the club for secret warm up shows before world tours and festivals. There’s nowhere else like it in the world!
