About

Winner of The Musicians’ Company’s Young Jazz Musician Award 2016-17, Daniel Casimir is undoubtedly one of the rising young lions of his generation. He attended the Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Course between 2008-2012, studying with legendary bassist Dave Holland and graduating with first class honours. Of his performance at the Trondheim jazz festival in a project with US sax star Chris Potter, critic Jon Turney said he “did everything a bass player should, cruising with the orchestra, responding creatively to the soloists, duetting impressively with Potter…” After graduating from Birmingham Daniel decided to move to London and complete a Masters at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, supported by scholarships from the Savile Club and Help Musicians. Since getting his Masters, Daniel has performed at the likes of Ronnie Scott’s and the Southbank Centre with the artists such as Julian Joseph, Jason Rebello, Benet Mclean, Lonnie Liston Smith and Nathaniel Facey. He also performs and records with Tom Harrison (‘Unfolding in Tempo’), Jasmine Power (‘Stories and Rhymes’), Camilla George (‘Isang’) and Art Blakey saxophonist Jean Toussaint. Daniel is probably best known here at the Club as the regular bass player with the Clark Tracey Quintet, with whom he has recorded two albums, ‘Meantime’ and ‘Jubilation’. Tonight Daniel will be performing material from his first release as a bandleader "Escapee" (dedicated to his young son's escapological abilities!) recently released under the cutting edge Jazz Re:freshed label. This is a terrific project highlighting Daniel's writing and arranging and featuring a number of the finest young musicians on the scene, including Sarah Tandy-piano, James Copus-trumpet, Tobie Carpenter-guitar, Olly Sarkar-drums and Tess Hirst-vocals. Highly recommended....
