8:00PM DAVID GORDON TRIO An assured and versatile pianist, David Gordon is one of the few professional jazz musicians who is also a well-established classical artist, being an accomplished harpsichordist as well as highly respected jazz pianist. David's recent project, “Alexander Scriabin's Ragtime Band” was received with considerable acclaim by audiences and critics alike and tonight he will be launching his latest project here at the Club, which, as he explains “pays homage to the great masters of eighteenth century Italian music to create a new kind of jazz. Taking its cue from the 18th-century Italian masters the Trio cleverly create super-hip jazz melodies and improvisations from the disciplines of the past, alongside some twentieth century Latin American hits that share some of the same characteristics and history”. The trio includes one of Italy’s best-loved and most in-demand bass players, Rosario Bonaccorso (Enrico Rava) alongside drummer Paul Cavaciuti. 9:45pm MIKE OUTRAM/CHRIS MONTAGUE GROUP This promises to be quite special, an exciting debut featuring two of the finest jazz guitarists on the International jazz scene, Mike Outram and Chris Montague. Mike Outram is one of the UK’s foremost jazz guitarists. He has toured worldwide, played on over a hundred CDs for the likes of Universal, Sony, Candid and Blue Note, appeared in a televised Prom from The Royal Albert Hall and played in Brazil, Italy and most countries in between. Highly respected for his virtuosity, he is also a professor at both Trinity College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. His fluent and inspired playing has been widely recognized as world class and it is a great pleasure to welcome this old friend back with this new lineup. One of the most innovative guitarists to emerge from the UK in recent years, Chris Montague is renowned for his skills as a composer and performer. As a founder member of the highly acclaimed band Troyka he has garnered a reputation for his distinctive approach and has gained much acclaim for his contributions to many contemporary recordings. A prize winner at the Montreux Jazz Festival, some of the musicians and bands Chris has also played with include Django Bates, Gwilym Simcock, Charlie Watts and Colin Towns. Chris’s music has been the subject of a feature on BBC Radio 3 and he was made an associate member of the Royal Academy of Music in 2013. Mike describes the music that they will be playing as influenced by classic contemporary guitarists such as John Scofield and John Abercrombie, so expect plenty of melodic, weaving lines and exciting harmonic excursions from two masters of the instrument.
