About
Gareth Williams has unquestionably established himself as one of the countryโs leading modern jazz pianists. A fiery and creative player, his remarkable talent has been seen with an impressive array of world-class artists, from Jazz/Hip Hop band โUs3โ through to internationally-renowned jazz musicians such as Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Lovano, George Coleman and Jim Mullen. MD for iconic UK vocalist Claire Martin, Gareth has been featured at the Club on many occasions. Described as โone of the most agile and original jugglers of improv and adventurous composition to have appeared in the UK in recent timesโ multi-award winning saxophonist and composer Trish Clowes has made quite an impact on the UK jazz scene. In 2008 she won the Peter Whittingham Development Award that allowed her to form her first ensemble, Tangent, followed by her eponymously named CD debut on Basho Records. A BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, her second album on Basho was released in 2012, at the same time her โIris Nonetโ was short-listed for the 2013 BASCA British Composer Awards. Her third album, โPocket Compassโ, was launched at the EFG London Jazz Festival 2014 alongside the premiere of her first BBC commission โThe Fox the Parakeet & The Chestnutโ (for which she won the BASCA Award in 2015). Going from strength to strength, her latest album, โMy Irisโ has been described as โmasterful musical wizardryโ (All About Jazz). The idea behind the โGlow Quartetโ is to bring generations and styles of musicians/music together, playing arrangements of standards and originals from the two leaders. As Gareth describes it, โโฆitโs an interactive band, taking risks, taking the good stuff from both more traditional improvised music and contemporary ideasโ. Also featured with the quartet will be the exceptional rhythm section of Steve Watts-bass and Martin France-drums....
