9:45PM JONATHAN GEE with Special Guests NOAH PREMINGER-sax & ROB GARCIA-drums. Voted the Guardian/Wire British Jazz Awards "Most Promising Newcomer" in 1991, pianist Jonathan Gee has since gone from strength to strength as a bandleader and sought-after sideman. He has worked with numerous of the jazz world’s most acclaimed artists, including Pharoah Sanders, Benny Golson, Christine Tobin, Tim Whitehead and Jean Toussaint. He leads a number of different groups performing his own and other music, based not only in the UK but also Italy & New York. An International artist, as well as Italy and the US Jon also includes work in the likes of France, Finland, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Singapore and China. As well as all of that he is also a founding member, along with Award winning saxophonist Tony Kofi, of the highly acclaimed Monk Liberation Front, “dedicated to the study and performance of the work of pianist/composer Thelonious Monk”. As of this writing, he has recorded eight CD’s, including his latest critically-lauded record “Dragonfly”. Tonight Jon will be teaming up with two colleagues from New York, the terrific saxophonist Noah Preminger and regular sparring partner drummer Rob Garcia. Although still in his 20’s Noah Preminger has already established himself as a highly respected player of vision and creativity. He has performed worldwide, touring extensively in Europe and Australia, and includes work with the likes of Dave Holland, Victor Lewis, George Cables, Roscoe Mitchell, Dr. Eddie Henderson and Dave Liebman on an impressive cv. A well established band leader in his own right he already has four CD’s released under his own name to considerable acclaim. Described as “a prime mover in the current Brooklyn jazz scene” by Time Out-New York, NY-based drummer/composer/bandleader Rob Garcia is the musician of choice for many of the finest jazz musicians in the US, including A-listers Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Diana Krall, Sonny Fortune and Chris Potter. He also has five CD’s to his credit as leader, including his latest “The Passion of Color” inspired by impressionist paintings & music (such as those by Van Gogh and Debussy). This promises to be a terrific set from some very impressive players. Highly recommended.
