Pianist Robert Mitchell accompanied by drummer Richard Spaven and bassist Neil Charles combine to make the Robert Mitchell 3io delighting the ears with freeform jazz mixed with electronic and rock music.

The Robert Mitchell 3io will be performing music from their new album The Embrace. Described as “a total syncopated joy” by BBC Music, the Robert Mitchell 3io have marked out their own territory and sound in British contemporary music. The 3io have honed their avant-garde mix of influences such as, hip-hop, freeform jazz, interesting rhythms and folk with both older and more modern jazz. Their debut album The Greater Good won the Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio 1 DJ) Worldwide Award for Best Jazz Album 2009. Robert Mitchell, leader of the 3io, is an award winning pianist, composer, arranger, and teacher, and has “had a big hand to play in the development of jazz in the UK …A very important influential musician... and a great live performer who’s gone from strength to strength.” Gilles Peterson, BBC Radio. Also described as “a lyricist and a thinker, and British jazz is far richer for his presence” by Metro, this musician is at the top of his game and should not be missed!

3io have played widely throughout the UK, appearing at major festivals such as Cheltenham International Jazz Festival and the London Jazz Festival opening for Branford Marsalis. Beyond the UK, they have played in Europe and the 10th Festival Culturel Europeen in Algiers supported by the British Council.
