The Slaughtered Lamb is hosting a charity gig in aid of T.E.A. supporting Sri Lankan children and young people living in extreme poverty

We are planning to leave the UK as a family in April 2014 to volunteer our professional time and effort to work with Sri Lankan children and young people living in extreme poverty. We strongly believe that we can help make a real and positive change to the lives of these young people. We have been offered an initial 12 month opportunity to work with a charity called Child Action Lanka living and working predominantly in Kandy.
We will be working on the ground with CAL to help empower children and young people by providing practical support and training to develop skills and promote children’s rights. We will be inclusive wherever possible, working with services and families of street children....

We will be working on the ground with CAL to help empower children and young people by providing practical support and training to develop skills and promote children’s rights. We will be inclusive wherever possible, working with services and families of street children.
We plan to develop a training programme that will help children to be listened to and also enable adults to understand 'from a child's perspective' what children want to change. The training will help adult health and education workers develop their practice and understanding; whilst enabling children to actually shape the services they receive.
We passionately believe that by directly helping the children and young people in this way will not only improve lives and help to end the cycle of poverty but develop skills and confidence instrumental to securing a positive future for Sri Lanka.

In addition we also plan to develop links between the street children we work with in Sri Lanka and local schools in the UK to help children in the UK understand the realities of growing up in poverty. The T.E.A Project will raise awareness, create friendships and help children be active members of the global community and make a positive contribution.
By running workshops, developing forums and consulting with children we can help to give children a voice enabling adults to understand their needs better and value them as individual people with rights.
