About
Victoria Newton is an Australian jazz singer who continues to delight audiences with her effervescence, energetic performances and musicality. She lived in the UK for many years where she became known as one of the most exciting and dynamic singers on the London jazz scene and was a regular here at the Club. During that time she appeared at many venues and festivals including Ronnie Scottâs, The Jazz CafĂ©, the London International Jazz Festival, Ingolstadt Jazz Festival, Queille in France and Alexis Jazz Club in Kuala Lumpur for their International Jazz Series. She was also, for many years, the lead singer with the 606 Clubâs âhouseâ Brazilian band Samara and displaying her impressive versatility, in the mid 1990s she had a stint as a pop star with the dance/pop Strike. After a whirlwind few years of promotional appearances, touring, releasing 5 top 40 singles and the critically acclaimed album, 'I Saw the Future', Victoria returned to her first love of performing jazz and Latin music, intensifying her passion for jazz influenced music from Brazil. She released her first solo album, âThe Song is Youâ in 2004 which received regular airplay in the UK and featured some of the finest musicians in Britain. Since relocating to Perth, Western Australia Victoria has performed in a variety of musical settings at various venues and festivals, including the Perth International Jazz Festival. She has just returned from Melbourne after a debut performance at the Paris Cat Jazz Club. Victoria is currently the director of the highly acclaimed jazz vocal program at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. We love to see Vickie whenever she makes it back to the UK and for this gig she will debut her latest project, a sultry fusion of timeless Brazilian classics from Jobim, Jorge Ben and Gilberto with some seriously funky roots in the spirit of Carnevale. Vickie is highly regarded by all the UK singers who know her, a number of whom always turn up when sheâs here, creating quite a âpartyâ atmosphere. A fabulous high-energy gig from an impressive, exuberant personality and a great way to spend a Friday night....
