About
Gary O'Brien is a versatile singer, songwriter, actor and music director whose career has led him to work on numerous commercial projects with brands including VW, Toyota, Adidas & Levis. As a songwriter, Gary was signed to London Records and Warner Publishing in the late 90’s, recording an album at Abbey Road studios alongside top engineers Mike Hedges & Mark Stent. Later, Gary’s band “Don” toured the UK and America alongside numerous acts from Robbie Williams to Echo and the Bunnymen. Currently, along with writing music for film and collaborating with other songwriters across genres from dance to indie rock, Gary plays with Lucho, a 6-piece band hailing from southwest London influenced by Blues and Americana with echoes of early Tom Waits, Harry Nilsson and Calexico. It’s this group you’ll be hearing at the Club tonight, featuring Gary on vocals and guitars, Nick Rye on piano and percussion, Matt Klose on drums, Glen Bridges on upright bass, Pete Honoré on electric guitar and Frank Walden on tenor sax. The band have 2 albums and 2 EPs available on iTunes, and the their song “Mercy” was used in the short film "2+1" which picked up a number of awards at last year's film festivals. Later this year will see the release of a new EP, consisting of songs put forward for the forthcoming feature film “6 Feet Under". The band’s sound is poignant and melodic, rich in story and atmosphere and anchored around songs both hopeful yet with an underlying tinge of melancholy that you’ll want to listen to again and again. We are very excited to welcome this very talented artist for his first performance here at the 606....
