Hannes Riepler Quintet Biography
“Riepler stylishly combines the immediacy of New York’s propulsive Downtown style with classical and folk textures.” (London Jazz Festival)
Austrian-born London-based guitarist Hannes Riepler entered the London Jazz Scene in autumn 2006, where he played and recorded with Paul Clarvis, Pete Saberton, Pete Hurt, Martin Speake, Scott Stroman, Henry Lowther, and many more. As a sideman Riepler can also be heard with Ryan Trebilcock’s Holler, Andre Canniere Group (Whirlwind Records), the Alam Nathoo Quintet, the Biddle Bros, Esben Tjalve’s Red Kite (F-IRE), the Mishka Adams Band (CANDID Records), and Huw White’s Neon Bedroom. He also runs the highly acclaimed jazz session at Charlie Wright’s International Bar, has performed at Pizza Express Soho, The Forge, The Bimhuis in Amsterdam, Vienna’s Porgy and Bess, Copenhagen and London Jazz Festivals.
He is joined by tenor saxophonist Tom Challenger from Huddersfield and pianist Kit Downes, who is an original member of Empirical, winner of BBC Jazz Award for Rising Star in 2008, a British Jazz Award in 2010 and a 2010 Mercury nomination for his debut album Golden. Drummer Jon Scott has just won a MOBO award with Kairos, another quartet originating from this young London scene. Finally Ryan Trebilcock completes the Quintet on bass.
