Jamie Mccredie at 606 Club

Jamie McCredie is a versatile guitarist who is equally adept performing either jazz or rock with unnerving ease and it’s easy to see why he won BBC Radio's "guitarist of the year competition" at the age of 19. As one of the most vibrant younger players on the London scene he has collaborated with artists such as Roisin Murphy, Mica Paris, Ed Drewett and Kid Creole but is probably best known at the Club for his regular appearances here as the guitarist for vocalist Purdy. Tonight he leads his own quartet, focussing on what he likes to describe as "panoramic compositions for the electric guitar, with the emphasis on melody & tone, borrowing harmony from the worlds of jazz and classical music, while blending it all with the expression and virtuosity of blues/rock". Supported by three quite brilliant musicians, Jim Watson on piano, Nick Walsh on bass and Chris Draper on drums he will showcase the "jazzier" side of his extensive repertoire in the first set, and then for the second half of the evening he will be inviting his special guests Tim Smart-trombone, Jim Knight-sax and George Hogg-trumpet to join him on the stand for a seriously "groove" based second set. Jamie has gone from strength to strength as a musician, composer and bandleader and it is with great pleasure that we welcome him back to the Club....
