Omar Puente is one of the world's leading exponents of Latin-jazz violin. Born and raised in Santiago, Cuba, he studied classical violin at the Havana Music Conserveroire, played as a member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra and has worked with some of the greats of Cuban music, including Ruben Gonzalez and of Buena Vista Social Club, Cachao Lopez and Guillermo Rubalcaba, and more recently has performed with Latin music legends, Tito Puente (no relation), Chucho Valdes and Eddie Palmieri. After moving to the UK he joined Courtney Pine's band and has collaborated with world-class jazz musicians, including Denys Baptiste, Jason Yarde and Wynton Marsalis. In the classical world he has performed with the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, legendary violinist Nigel Kennedy and has composed and performed for the Carlos Acosta ballet. Al MacSween is quickly gaining a reputation for his creativity, versatility and innovative approach to the piano. His ability to soak in and interpret a staggering range of musical styles has led to collaborations with an range of artists, including Indian vocal maestro, Shankar Mahadevan (Shakti), British soul legend Ruby Turner, South-African trumpeter Claude Deppa (African Jazz All-Stars) and a host of world-renowned jazz musicians including the late Abram Wilson, Pee Wee Ellis, Gilad Atzmon, Dennis Rollins, Tony Kofi and many more.
Omar and Al have played together regularly over the past few years, including a tour in Brazil last year, and will be performing some of the material from the duo album 'Bridges' that Omar recorded with pianist, Robert Mitchell in 2006.
