About
Originally a classical pianist, John formed his first Jazz group “Atlas” in 1986. Since then he has become known as one of Europe’s most creative jazz pianist/composers, working with the likes of Tim Garland, Evan Parker and Andy Sheppard and, to date, has appeared at over fifty different festivals worldwide and produced over 25 CDs. Tonight’s gig from John’s newly formed quartet "Congregation" will feature saxophonist James Mainwaring from the Mercury Prize and MOBO-nominated Roller Trio. An impressive musician James also plays guitar with the band and brings subtle electronic textures as well as high energy improvisations to John's acoustic trio. As John says: "I’m very excited to be working with a new member of the quartet: the young, talented James Mainwaring, adding a touch of rock to my jazz and classical compositions. The programme is a mixture of my own compositions and tunes by other people and audiences can expect the music to contain ambient soundscapes and deep grooves…". The line-up tonight also features Ashley John Long on bass and Billy Weir on drums. There really isn't another band around that mixes Jazz, classical, rock and electronica in quite this way. Well worth checking out....
