Stan, whose CV reads like a who’s who of jazz including work with the likes of Michael Brecker, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Marc Copeland and Gil Evans, is a brilliant saxophonist with an instantly recognisable sound. Commanding an enormous amount of respect not only for his great playing but also his compositional originality he is today bringing in his remarkable 18 piece Big Band which, not surprisingly, boasts some of the finest players in the UK. The writing and arranging is all Stan's, the band is directed by trumpeter Nick Smart and features, amongst many others, the likes of Pete Hurt, James Allsop, Mark Nightingale, Henry Lowther, Noel Langley, Kit Downes, Dave Whitford and Tim Giles. This is a rare chance to see one of the most original and exciting big bands working anywhere in Europe - highly recommended....
