About

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, bass player Moyses dos Santos showed an aptitude for the instrument from a very early age. His first public performance was at the age of 8, when he appeared with his local church band, and he continued to perform within the church environment right up through to the age of 18. Once in his teens the word soon got out and it wasn’t long before he found himself touring Brazil with established gospel and pop artists. His international career really took off, though, on his move to London in the late 2000’s when he was in his mid 20’s. It didn’t take long for his talent to be recognised, and for the last three years or so he has been touring Europe and his native South America with various high profile bands as well as working regularly as a successful studio musician here in London. Co-founder, along with Incognito and Level 42 drummer Pete Ray Biggin, of the impressive band “Lola’s Day Off”, Moyses is also in the process of recording his own album with well known instrumentalists from both the UK and the US. Tonight Moyses will be appearing with his own fantastic band that features some remarkable UK-based musicians, including Mikayl Dawood-guitar, Tomasz Bura-keyboards, Jackson Mathod-trumpet, Andrew Brown-sax and the wonderful Francesco Mendolia from the iconic band Incognito on drums. And if all that wasn't enough Moyses has also asked one of the UK’s finest upcoming performers, Speech Debelle, to join the band this evening as his Special Guest. A Mercury Prize winner with her first album "Speech Therapy", Speech Debelle has, over the last 8 years or so, been ploughing a thoughtful and unique furrow in the worlds of hip hop and rap. Described as "intriguing" by the Guardian she produced her second album "Freedom of Speech" in 2012 and in the same year the single from Speech Therapy, "Spinnin" was used as one of the official anthems of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. This is an amazing line up put together just for this gig and is a fantastic treat for anyone who likes great Latin/Brazilian/Groove. This is the fifth in a series of stellar gigs that Moyses has organised here at the Club recently and all have been sell-outs, so booking is definitely advised!...
