About

This remarkable gig features a breathtaking 4-sax front line backed by Robin Aspland's exceptional piano trio. After taking the scene by storm in the early sixties with the Ronnie Scott quintet, Peter King is recognized as one of the finest alto saxophonists in the world. His fabulous technique allied with an unerring sense of harmony has made him one of the greatest players this country has ever produced. One of the leading musicians of her generation, saxophonist and composer Trish Clowes received the Peter Whittingham Development Award in 2008, was selected as a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist in 2012 and won the 2015 British Composer Award. Performance highlights include ‘Under Your Wing’ featuring Norma Winstone and BBC Radio 3’s Free-Thinking Festival with the Royal Northern Sinfonia. After studying in his native Greece, Vasilis Xenopoulos won a jazz scholarship to the world famous Berklee College of Music in Boston. Since moving to London in 2002 he has worked with the likes of Shez Raja’s Collective, Jim Mullen and Derek Nash as well as International performers including pianists Hiromi and Jason Lindner. A member of the award-winning Big Band Patchwork Jazz Orchestra, tenor saxophonist Alex Hitchcock also leads his own projects at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, The Vortex and The Royal Albert Hall. He has performed with Soweto Kinch, Stan Sulzmann, Art Themen and the BBC Big Band and has worked as an Ambassador for the National Youth Jazz Collective. Supporting these great saxophonists will be the trio of pianist Robin Aspland, a star in his own right who includes work with the likes of Van Morrison, Arturo Sandoval, Claire Martin and Cleo Laine on a stellar cv....
