About
8:00pm ROB BARRON/COLIN OXLEY
This is a wonderfully musical quartet featuring two of the most lyrical jazz musicians currently working in the UK. After leaving Leeds College of Music with a BA Hons degree in Jazz studies and the College Award for Outstanding Performance, pianist Rob Barron moved to London where he completed his Masters in Music performance with Distinction from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since then he has been a mainstay of the jazz and studio scene, including work with US jazz stars Bob Mintzer, Phil Woods, Benny Golson and Curtis Fuller, leading UK musicians Tim Garland, Soweto Kinch, Nigel Hitchcock, Jean Toussaint and the award-winning Kairos 4tet, as well as the likes of Bryan Adams, The BBC Big Band, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Vanessa Mae, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Paloma Faith, English National Ballet and Jamelia. Fluent and creative, Rob is considered to be one of the most talented pianists of his generation. A multi-award winning guitarist, Colin Oxley is a gentle player, whose fluid style and relaxed, “laid-back” approach make for a wonderfully enjoyable night. His work with singer Stacey Kent has led to Colin being recognised around the globe as a world-class musician and one of the finest guitarists ever to come from the UK. Amongst his numerous gigs he includes regular work at New York’s famous Algonquin Hotel, appearances at the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals and work with the likes of Scott Hamilton and Harry Allen. Also featured tonight will be Jeremy Brown on bass and Matt Home on drums. A beautiful gig from masters of jazz improvisation....
