A be-bop player at heart, Jamaican free-form jazz genius Joe Harriott fused the influences of Charlie Parker with his own Jamaican musical sensibilities. He also sought inspiration from visual artists such as Pi-casso. Brainchild of double bassist Gary Crosby OBE, and conducted by Peter Edwards, the Nu Civilisation Orchestra is one of the UK’s most exciting and most diverse jazz orchestras. In Parallel, this outstanding ensemble explores the interaction between musical and visual improv-isation as Harriott conceived it, creating an engaging, multi-dimensional and highly accessible trib-ute, enriched with art created by rising star visual artist, Emma Godebska.
